Manual
Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) in Birmingham with
Lorraine What is our lymphatic system? "A system which purifies the body and regulates irritation, swelling and oedema." - Thomas Bartholin circa 1654 What is Manual Lymph Drainage? A specialised massage technique which uses slow, rhythmical circular and pumping movements to gently move the skin over the underlying tissues. The muscles of the lymphatic system are stimulated which aids the removal of waste and excess fluid from tissues. The technique is pain free and extremely relaxing. How can MLD help you? For each person the effect is unique. However, it is extremely relaxing as it works directly on the nervous system; it encourages decongestion and more efficient movement of the body's waste products, it may therefore strengthen our immune system; and it can help to ease pain. MLD, whilst helpful for many specific conditions, is also a good preventative therapy, supporting us to keep and feel well. Treatment is provided holistically - treating you as a whole person, not merely as a series of symptoms (for more information on holistic treatment, click HERE). The Benefits:
An MLD treatment: Often people, who have never received MLD or another form of massage are deterred from booking a session because of 'fear of the unknown'. So if this is the case, please do not hesitate to ring for more information about the therapy, or about how the sessions run, without any obligation to book. The first session is a consultation where you will be asked questions about your health and general well-being and where you get the opportunity to ask questions you may have. The treatment will be discussed with you, indicating the number and frequency of sessions to best meet your needs. This will be reviewed with you at each session. Chronic conditions, for example, may need several sessions in close proximity. The first session is a consultation and can last up to 2 hours - this usually includes the first treatment. Further treatments last between 45 and 90 minutes again dependent on your specific needs. Conditions such as lymphoedema will require liaison with your medical practitioner with your involvement.
