What is Reiki?

The act of offering touch to comfort, to relieve pain or just to be with someone is instinctive – and this is the beginning of Reiki, quite simply. However, when we are ‘attuned’ into Reiki energy, it awakens our ‘memory’ of the universal energy that is around and within us. We all have healing energy – Reiki can increase and direct it – a bit like fine tuning into the required wavelength.

Reiki is a Japanese word. Rei in Japanese means spirit or soul, and ki means life force energy (In China, life force energy is called Chi, in India, Prana).

How can Reiki help?

Reiki works on many levels – emotional, physical, mental, spiritual well-being and balance. Everyone’s experience of receiving Reiki is different and specific to them – but overall feelings of peace and calmness seem to be universal. Most importantly, how Reiki energy is used, is determined by the person receiving it – consciously or sub-consciously.

People have reported relief from aches, pains, emotional stress and tension, headaches; or have perhaps gained an insight into to how to deal with some difficulty or situation; help with decision making, clarity; feelings of peace, calm, tranquility and relaxation.

Session Details

Reiki is a very simple hands-on bodywork method. The hands of the practitioner are still – placed on different areas of the body; connecting to physical areas, to chakras, to energy – being guided by the person receiving – and by the universal energy that is being channelled. Reiki can be received lying on a couch, sitting in a chair, using a wheelchair – whichever way is most comfortable – and clothes are kept on!

The sessions last approximately 1 hour

About the therapist:

Lorraine started Reiki training in 1994 and received the Reiki III attunement in 2001 at HOPE Connections in Worcester in the Usui system of natural healing – and then becoming a Reiki teacher.

She has her own well-established practice based in Birmingham and is also employed for part of her time by the Health Service.

Lorraine directs Meridian Professional Training in Massage in Birmingham which also offers workshops for those interested in finding out more about massage and for the continuing professional development of qualified practitioners. She is also a member of the Training Committee of the Massage Training Institute, London, a professional organisation of holistic massage schools

Her belief and enthusiasm in holistic therapies influences her continuing study, development and exploration.
